Marriage Licenses in the Howard District of Anne Arundel County 1840-1851 Marriage Licenses in the Howard District of Anne Arundel County 1840-1851
Originally published by the Colonel Thomas Dorsey Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, 22 pages plus index (1966)

The marriage license records contained cover the period during which the Howard District of Anne Arundel County was in existence, 1840 to1851.  They were copied from the three oldest general license ledgers found at the Howard Conty Court House, Ellicott City, Maryland.  The pages of the first two ledgers were unnumbered and there was much confusions as to arrangement, the second book being in part a duplicate of the first.  The six ledgers in this series, from March 1840 to February 1883, are now at the Hall of Records, Annapolis, Maryland.

Transcriptions of the Howard Gazette 1850-1851 Transcriptions of the Howard Gazette 1850-1851
[CD, 2007] This CD contains transcriptions from the microfilm of The Howard Gazette and General Advertiser, Ellicotts Mills, Maryland, Volume 2, Numbers 1-52 (26 Jan 1850 to 18 Jan 1851). Where the microfilm was difficult to read, the text was verified by consulting the original bound copy of the newspaper from which the microfilm was made. The transcriptions include only selected parts of each issue. They include most of the state and local news, selected national news, selected advertisements, and occasional general articles. The CD also contains the microfilm images in jpg format of each entire issue. The Howard Gazette existed from 1849 until about 1860. The Howard Gazette traces its ancestry to Howard's earliest paper, The Howard Free Press, which began in 1840, the year the Howard District was formed. The Howard Gazette's direct descendant is Howard's current paper, The Howard County Times.
